Christian Lacroix last couture show ??

runway updateWhile Lacroix filed for bankruptcy last May, I can only hope that some billionaire investor will very soon fund this fabulous designer label. Christian Lacroix started his own couture label in 1987, after having worked at Jean Patou since 1981. He has a background in historical costumes having worked in a theatre. His designs send out a great sense of folkloric opulence, with lots of colour and dramatic glamour. Lacroix always ends his couture show with a model dressed as a bride. His famous puffball skirt ("le pouf") became a reinvention of the ball gown for the late 20th century. Now after 22 years being in the business he might be showing off his last couture show. Is he trying to say something with the lack of color in this collection? There will definitely be some dark days ahead for Lacroix.

Dior Fall 2009 Couture

runway update

Bringing back the couture from the 50's at the house of Dior, Galliano once again knows his craft as the best in the business. Sexy bustiers and laced girdles set the tone for his collection. With lots of bright colours, bar peplum jackets and amazing evening gowns, Dior's couture show was as usual, outrageously fabulous. Judge for yourself. Love Dior.

(check out the blue feathered hat, quite similar to Balenciaga's 40's shoulder span hat)

Exhibition Madeleine Vionnet

fashion update

The museum of Les Arts Decoratifs has now opened a wonderful exhibition devoted to the famous couturiere Madeleine Vionnet known as the "Queen of the bias cut". She used the natural shapes and curves of a woman to design some of the most beautifully dresses made. And by cutting the fabrics diagonal (bias), it would allow her designs to be more fluid and moving. Her inspirations derived from Greek art and that's where her famous Grecian style dresses come from. The exhibition
shows 22 dresses, 750 patterns and 75 photo albums of her work. You can see the exhibition from 24 june 2009- 24 january 2010 at the Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
