Fall Fashion Week 2009
runway update
Some designers dare to go different from the rest. More dramatic, theatrical, opulent and glamorous were the collections of Galliano and McQueen this fall. Both brought a sense of romanticism and great craftmanship to the stage.
McQueen's sense of humour came back in his use of recycled materials as headgears and satire hommage to some of fashion's most famous looks like Dior's New Look, Chanel tweed suits and YSL wrapover dress.
Galliano's collection shows a story with inspirations from Ukrainian virgin brides, mixed with poetry and romance. He worked with some new volumes and shapes, super high heels with pom pom details, beautiful embroidered folkloric and spun-silver bias cut dresses.

Tribute to Christian Dior
fashion icon
Christian Dior was born in 1905 in Granville, Normandy Coast. To please his father he studied at the Ecole des Sciences Politiques in1923 to prepare for a diplomatic career. But he always had a thing for the arts. In 1928 he opened a small art gallery, but three years later after the death of his mother and brother, the gallery closed. He started selling fashion sketches to haute couture houses to get by. At the age of 32 he assisted Robert Piquet. Shortly after, he was called up for military service. In 1942 he joined Lucien Lelong 's fashion house as one of the primary designers, next to Pierre Balmain. In 1946 he opened his own fashion house. His first collection, the Corolle line or the New Look, was born. With its tiny waist, full long skirt, and use of yards and yard of fabric, he revolutionized women's dress. It became the most famous silhouette and one of the signature looks of Dior. In 1954 he presented the French bean line or Flat look. Unfortunately Christian Dior died in 1957 due to a heart attack.
After his death, Yves Saint Laurent took over as artistic director until 1960. From there on several artistic designers followed including Marc Bohan (1960-1989), Gianfranco Ferre (1989-1996) and the ultra legendary designer of today, John Galliano (from 1996). Galliano's talent is ultra creative and highly sophisticated and he isn't afraid to take bold risks. In his collections for Dior, he knows best how to mix Dior's traditional style with his own contemporary visions and take fashion to a whole new level of glamour and luxury. Every woman should wear Dior. J'adore Dior.

Ode to Mod
fashion update
Absolutely looooove Mod fashion. The era of fashion that started in the sixties still leaves it's footprints in today's fashion culture. From Mary Quant, the creator of the miniskirt, to YSL, introducing the "trapeze dress" in 1958, and Twiggy, revolutionizing the short-haired androgynous look. The looks of Mod are simply fabulous. Great prints and simple shapes allow you to feel comfortable and stylish at the same time. I totally LOVE it!!
Check out some great sites I visit for inspiration and great buys on Mod fashion:

Jumpsuits comeback since Top Gun
fashion update
They are not your 70's nylon parachute style outfit anymore. Today the jumpsuit is hotter than ever, with silk chiffon, satin and cotton versions, it's a one-piece outfit wonder. Derek Lam and Diane von Furstenberg had some great jumpsuits running on the catwalk this spring. Dress yours up with lots of jewelry and platform high heels. You will look fabulous!!
